A beautifully elegant Barossa Valley Grenache that exudes finesse and charm. Delicate yet expressive, it offers sweet dark cherry, floral fruits, and a touch of orange blossom, complemented by hints of spiced oak and vanilla. The silky palate reveals bright, juicy fruit, subtle warmth, and whispers of green honey and spice. The grapes were harvested, destemmed, cold-soaked for 1-2 days to encourage the
extraction of soft tannins, whole berry fermented (in the absence of stalks) in small open fermenters. The resultant wine was aged in a mixture of shaved old American and French oak barrels allowing fruit expression to dominate the wine.

Analysis - 14.2% v/v Alcohol, pH 3.44 & TA 5.7g/L, no residual sugar (Dry).

The 2024 vintage will be noted for its dry winter and even drier growing conditions. Despite a slightly warmer February than average the fruit was hand-picked on the 8th of April. Grenache was recognised as one of the standout varieties for Vintage 2024 in the Barossa Valley.

The grapes for this wine were grown on an ironstone ridge just west of Tanunda, planted around 1960, without a trellis or irrigation for fortified wine production. In a drying climate, irrigation was introduced recently to maintain vine-health, but the vines remain as Bush Vines to this day.

Australia built an excellent fortified wine industry based around Grenache which made a high quality early maturing Tawny Port (as it was then called) wine from the 1840’s through to the late 1970’s. The Barossa Valley was the heart of this industry with many of the large producers based there and exporting fortified sweet wines in barrel to Great Britain up until just prior to World War 2.

In its home country, Grenache is a valuable component in many southern Rhone Valley table-wine blends which are renowned the world over. In the past decade or so, Grenache has enjoyed a renaissance with recognition in GSM (Grenache Shiraz Mourvèdre) blends, sometimes in different combinations and more recently as a standalone varietal.
