After a kind and prolonged run of average temperatures without extreme heat, the vintage was kicked into gear with a chain of hot days in early March. This ‘Indian summer’ promoted depth of flavour and richness of fruits for which the region is famed.
Eden Valley Riesling opened the harvest, being picked on the morning of March 13 just after the heat. The Barossa Valley Shiraz quickly followed on March 19 and 20, the Old Vine Barossa Grenache Shiraz Mourvèdre being hand-picked over the first week of April, with harvest concluding on April 8 with the Eden Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.
Overall, the Barossa Valley - home to our Shiraz and GSM produced quality fruit with yields down 24% on the 2023 harvest. In Eden Valley – home to our Riesling, (soon to come) Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon also produced some great quality fruit with a yield only slightly down (6%) on the 2023 harvest.
Quality was the highlight of the 2024 vintage with Riesling, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon producing some truly delicious wines.
Our Eden Valley Riesling was truly a standout, with great natural acidity, pristine fruit characters and fine structure. Elegance personified, with typical Eden Valley fresh lime, and delightful floral fruit.
